Heavy 444 Molds !

Over the last two years I have been working with a steady progression of molds for the 444 Marlin . Mine have come from a variety of sources . Lyman , RCBS , Lee , Ranch Dog and NEI . My latest trials have been with the Lyman 429649 and the NEI 429-330GC . Although I've had good luck with them in my...

Re: My new MM .433-400 mold.

Olle was nice enough to offer me a few of his 433-350 and 433-400 bullets . I tried the 400 grainers with RL7 and Varget choosing to use the max loads Marshall Stanton had for the 405 BTB . And while they were not the greatest in terms of group size they were well within minute of deer , elk or moos...

Re: My new MM .433-400 mold.

Now this 400 grainer cast from aircooled wheelweights has worked in my 444P with no signs of yaw . But bear in mind the 444P is ballard rifled and the twist is 1/20 . With my older 444's I have 1/38 twist and Micro groove rifling . So with these for bullets over 315 grains I water quench the wheel w...

Re: My new MM .433-400 mold.

Haven't heard of anyone trying a 375 grainer in the slower twist barrel, but that would be "way out there." I'm still amazed that the 350 grainers shoot in the slow twist. A 444 Marlin loaded with 300 - 350 grain hard cast should be enough gun for anything in North America ??????? But tha...

Re: My new MM .433-400 mold.

Okay I went on and bit the bullet ! I made "what I think" is a close facsimali of Olle's 433-400GC design and a 375 grain version of the same basic design . Now all i have to do is weight for the bullet master to make and ship them to me ;) Once I recieve them it's my intention to try them...

Re: My new MM .433-400 mold.

I assume those are the two molds I ordered last week :D

Looks like they turned out very nicely !

Should I expect them this week or early next week ?

MM 433-375 and 433-400

Recieved the pair of molds from Mountain Molds last week . http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f316/6pt-sika/DSCN0249-2.jpg The 400 grainer ! http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f316/6pt-sika/DSCN0250-1.jpg The 375 grainer . Was able to cast about 100 of each weight last week and water quenched them all...

Re: MM 433-375 and 433-400

I also started shooting the 433-375 last week a little .

Tried H322 , RL7 and Varget !

They all did alright for intial trials . But it looks as if H322 in the 41 grain range and Varget in the 52 or 53 grain range are going to be the way to go !

Re: MM 433-375 and 433-400

Based on the testing at Bear Tooth Bullets the 400 grainer is to much for a slow twist Micro barrel in the 444 and with that in mind I decided to try the 375 grainer as my max weight in my slow twist Micro Groove Marlin's . And the 400 grainer will eventually be tried in a 444 with the faster twist ...

Re: MM 433-375 and 433-400

Been awhile since I've posted anything here ! The MM433-375GC has worked pretty well for me in the slow twist Micro barrels as long as I use water quenched WW's . But I've yet to try them on any animals . Although based on other bullets I've used in the 444 I see no reason these wouldn't do fine als...
