Re: New .45-70-405 Mold for [JM] Marlin 1895GS

Right, forgot to comment that Bore Riding section did NOT engrave when chambering, it must have engraved during extraction with dowel & mallet from the muzzle. I know this because I dropped a boolit into the chamber & tapped it into the bore with a dowel from the breach end. That's where I r...

Re: New .45-70-405 Mold for [JM] Marlin 1895GS

You see where the .450" bore is gently kissing the .451" front band. The grooves mic @ .458". The as cast [CWW+2%Sn] dia. is @ .4610-.4612ish", perfect for this application. I don't know how Dan controls his calculations & machin...

Re: Smokin' Mold to aid casting release?

10-4. I opened up my bottom pour spout then cast 256 7/8oz 12ga slugs & it "pees like a horse!" Hope to 'get it wet' today, as it's in the high 20's so I can crack the garage doors without getting frostbite, eh.

Smokin' Mold to aid casting release?

Hello again;

I tried to look for this topic, rather than bothering you, but did not find it.

Do you have any suggestions or recommendations re: breaking in your molds or use of 'releases'?

Re: New .45-70-405 Mold for [JM] Marlin 1895GS

Received my brandy new MM-461-405 an hour ago. I was pleasantly surprised to see the heavy duty sprue & the channel cut, connecting the two fill "funnels". They're not just holes to fill the mold, but since the sprue plate is so thick, the chamfered entrance results in a funnel. Awesom...

Re: The 357 pressure barrel project resumes (again)

"...my CED prefers infrared light. Most incandescents and some LEDs emit enough infrared to do the job,..."

Didn't know IR sensors were involved. My chrono 'spec sht.' certainly doesn't mention that level of detail. Your dedicated Chrono Village Hut is too cute! Again, thanks.

Re: Mold Handles

Alrighty then, I see what you're sayin'. Thanks again for taking the time. I'll keep this 'fix' in mind. I'm prepping my smelted ingots for anticipated arrival of the 45-70-405wj mold. My dear wifey is happy I'm happy, and says, she really doesn't need to know exactly why. That's part of why our 47 ...

Re: Mold Handles

Sorry, still not 'seeing' it. You mean, pour lead around the handle pivot to take up slack?

Re: The 357 pressure barrel project resumes (again)

Greetings; Fluorescent illumination is not steady, but rather 'changes' at 120 CPS. That confuses your light sensors in the chrono. Use either a 120VAC incandescent or try DC powered LEDs. I'm prototyping a portable LED light source for my "sky screens" if/when its too dark outside to sens...

Re: New .45-70-405 Mold for [JM] Marlin 1895GS

Looks pretty awesome from here. That's like 1 week turn-around...I'm hardly ever that fortunate. My 6-Cav LEE handles should arrive within 2 days. Can't wait to "slug" it with 1 gr of x-DOT [w/poly filler] to push into bbl. I'm also planning to document casting results with SWW, CWW, CWW+1...
