Re: Mass shootings ... here we go again

Calling for a "national conversation" on any topic implicitly assumes that a rational discussion will take place. It is no longer possible to have a rational public discussion on any important sociopolitical subject (or, for that matter, almost any unimportant one). People on all sides arg...

Re: MM 433-375 and 433-400

Meant to ask before and forgot... Those all seem kind of small to me. Are they about average size for Virginia bears?

Re: Ed Wosika article on PSI vs. BHN

Thanks for tracking this down; very interesting. Along these lines, there are a bunch of articles (of somewhat varying quality) at the Los Angeles Silhouette Club site ( http://www.lasc.us/ArticleIndex.htm ) that are worth going through. Of particular interest (to me, anyway) is the one by Geoff Cha...

Re: BHN vs. PSI

Neither I nor Richard Lee claimed that HB*1422 = tensile strength. All the 1422 does is convert kg/mm^2 (the unit of measure of the Brinell Hardness Test) to lb/in^2. If somebody on the web is claiming that HB*1422 gives tensile strength, then they don't know what they're talking about and should be...

Re: BHN vs. PSI

Dan, here's the formula for BHN (the image is from http://www.calce.umd.edu/TSFA/Hardness_ad_.htm ) : image005.gif where BHN = the Brinell hardness number F = the imposed load in kg D = the diameter of the spherical indenter in mm Di = diameter of the resulting indenter impression in mm The denomina...

Re: BHN vs. PSI

Brinell Hardness is measured in kilograms per square millimeter of the spherical surface area of the indentation made by the ball used for testing. One kilogram is a about 2.2046 pounds, and one square inch is about 645.16 square millimeters. Thus, the conversion factor between BHN and PSI is approx...

Firewood

Saw this and thought of you immediately. If you use much firewood, and especially if you split any of it by hand, this guy up in Nova Scotia has two excellent ideas to make both *much* faster:

Re: posting pictures

For screen captures in general, grab a copy of "greenshot" off of the web. It works extremely well and has a limited set of editing features that cover very common things you want to do. There's no gamma/contrast/color changes, unfortunately, but "fsview" is also free and does a ...

Re: Marlin .460 410grs

Thanks for the response. Yes, winters like that aren't likely to bother them much as long as they can find some food, and they eat everything but rocks and raw dirt as far as I can tell. Have you decided where you want to hunt in the US? Personally, I don't recommend Texas; hunting here has become v...

Re: Marlin .460 410grs

Danny.k, I meant to ask when you posted the boar picture.... Are the boars in Sweden true wild boars, wild boars imported for hunting, or feral domestic pigs? I ask because I didn't think the Eurasian wild boar naturally ranged into Sweden/Norway/Finland. Very nearly all wild pigs in the US are (des...
