50 Cal Gas Check Shank Diameter

Postby side hammer » Sat Jan 21, 2012 10:32 am

The program gives me the following options for a shank diameter for gas checks on my 50 cal design. Either .468 or .469" for the Gator checks or a .477" straight shank. I have a pile of 50 cal Hornady checks that I would like to use. Which of these shank diameters is best suited for the Hornadys?

The Hornady 50 is misnamed. It is actually for 0.500" bullets, not 0.510" bullets. The OD is only 0.506" - 0.507".

Last I heard, only the Gator 50 and 50 short were made for 50 caliber bullets.
