Gas check question

Post by shooter93 » Fri Jul 24, 2009 6:52 pm

Dan...can you tell me the difference or "why for" of the stepped versus straight shank for the Gas checks? Oh...and by the way...the 9.3 design I sent that had the long nose....guy gave me the dimensions from a MM he had but he read them all wrong. I got some of the bullets to measure from. I'm thinking I can get away with a .580 nose length counting the .100 front band with a bullet length of 1.035. Thanks for the heads up of the last design.

The step gives the check a ledge to hang onto. I don't claim that they shoot any better, since even a loose check/shank should obturate to fit barrel. It does seem to help the check stay on at the loading bench, though.

Sorry about the long nose problem. I don't like to micromanage design decisions, but ..... long cast noses have got to go. If I ever have time, I may edit the design program to limit the length of the unsupported nose to perhaps 1 caliber (and 1 caliber is still a stretch).

It seemed like my emails to you were being blocked, but I did email you.
