The nose punch aka top punch is used to push the bullet into the lubrisizer. Pointy bullets require a fitted punch, flat nose bullets are usually OK with a 35 caliber flat punch.

I believe Lyman offers a flat punch, though I don't know the number. NOE also sells them. Or you can buy one from me for $10 (just send $10 to my email).

Hi mtngun, I was discussing the mold I ordered with an experienced caster who is helping me get set up.

He raised the concern that the .458 Gator gas checks will be too small for my bore and this could cause problems with hot gas bypassing the gas check and damaging the bullet, spoiling concentricity.

This is something I hadn't considered, but it does make sense, since my bullet will be .462 diam.

Is this a problem and can it be fixed?

Thanks,

Ben

The Gator 458 rifle checks are 0.468" OD, so no worries.
