Just returned from the range !
I have my circa 1967 rifle sighted in at 50 and 100 yards with the RCBS 44-240SWC , Lyman 429244 , Saeco #431 and the LBT 430-250GC . Also have the sight settings determined for the LBT 431-280GC in that rifle as well .
Got the sight in on the Retro 444P with the Lyman 429650 , the RCBS 44-300SWC , Saeco #433 and the LBT 431-300GC .
I also took velocity readings on the four 300 grainers and got the average of three shots as follows .
Lyman 429650 with 50 grains H322 2005 FPS
RCBS 44-300SWC with 50 grains H322 2026 FPS
Saeco #433 with 50 grains H322 1945 FPS
LBT 431-300GC with 49 grains H322 1956 FPS
Not bad velocities for a 19" barrel I think .
I also did some more work with the MM/RD 432-365GC with H322 . And I am now getting decent groups at 100 yards but I believe with more magnification then 4x I could do better as the groups were averaging between 2 and 3 inches . I also took velocity readings for the charges and they are the averages of three shots .
46 grains H322 1908 FPS
47 grains H322 1946 FPS
48 grains H322 1984 FPS
I wanted to go to 49 grains as well but I couldn't get it in the case and seat the bullet correctly !
Perhaps later this week I'll hit the range again and do a little more with the MM/RD 432-365GC and perhaps my circa 2001 Marlin 444 and some of the 400 grain plus bullets .
